Author Event: Jenn L. Beckwith

Connecticut author Jenn Beckwith will be at ReRead Books & Cafe on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 pm to sign copies of her debut book, All Good Cretins Go To Heaven: The Enduring Spirit of the Ramones! Published this April, the book covers the band’s history and members, the origins of rock and roll, the origin of punk, and what it means to be punk. It features fan-submitted photos, meetup moments, and concert stories, as well as interviews from family and friends who knew the band. Limited copies of this 280-page fan retrospective celebrating the Ramones will be available for purchase at the bookstore; you can also purchase a copy in advance at this link!
In 1974, a music revolution began with a band in New York City’s Bowery neighborhood. They played in a small near-empty bar to an audience that included the ex-Marine bar owner and his dog. The band consisted of four misfits from Forest Hills, Queens with clashing personalities: an opinionated construction worker, a shy and towering sensitive soul, a high-energy Army brat, and a talented multi-instrumentalist immigrant. They formed a band with a unified look, sound and stage presence with the one thing they all shared in common: their love of Rock and Roll. They were the Ramones.
The Ramones loved and respected their fans. Their dedicated fanbase was the motivating force for performing over twenty-two years across three decades until their retirement in 1996. These same dedicated fans collaborated in the creation of All Good Cretins Go to Heaven.
This is an open love letter to Ramones from the fans and those closest to them, sharing their love in photos, artwork, and memories. In this love is where the Ramones spirit endures.
Jenn L. Beckwith is a children’s librarian on the Connecticut Shoreline and a self-professed non-conformist, music nerd, and bookworm. Jenn is a proofreader for Earth Island Books on Charlie Harper’s autobiography, “An Anarchy of Demons”, and the writings of Alexandros Anesiadis. This is her first published book. In her spare time, Jenn hosts Subterranean Playground under the DJ name “Carbona Ramona” on WESU-FM where she plays punk, surf, garage, and rockabilly. When she’s not spinning music, Jenn is checking out bands at Cafe Nine. In between club jaunts Jenn enjoys camping, knitting, and listening to the Ramones. Jenn lives in Central Connecticut with her husband, daughter, and two dogs. The couple are easily spotted cruising around town in one of her husband Chris’s many unique antique cars.
